Mark loves data and analytics. He loves it so much he gave up a career in executive management during an (early onset) mid life crisis after finding Tableau.
Its not quite that straightforward but close enough. Mark was looking to answer a question about where he worked. Each year at this work, there was a time where incoming supply outstripped outgoing demand. Mark was pretty sure this could be predicted. He was told this was not the case. Due to many, many, many unpredictable things this was not viable.
After getting access to the main CRM (with the help from the server team) and finding the right tables, he found that there was a date, with a confidence interval of + - 3 days, where indeed, incoming supply would outstrip outgoing demand. Charged with solid, reliable and insightful data, he charged to the exec meeting to show his peers only to hear “yes, that’s all well and good, but you cant predict it”. He set about changing his career right after that.
And here he is, BI and DW manager at Griffith University and still alive (and more in love with data) than ever before!
