Tell Really Good Stories with Tableau

What is data storytelling? It means a lot of different things to different people. Tableau has in many ways freed data enthusiasts to explore this question and unleashed a wave of creative expression where design and data meet in exciting ways. We’ll explore together one approach to finding your inner storyteller with Tableau.

6:35 pm

Celebrate the unnecessary!

In these times of disputed votes and global pandemics, there have never been so many serious and important data visualisations in the public eye. But for other projects, if you just want a complete break from viruses and election maps, how analytical does your viz really need to be, is it really necessary?

Speakers

Joshua Preston

News and Marketing Manager, Georgia Tech

Joshua Preston is a news and marketing manager focusing on computing technology at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. He discovered Tableau when he snuck into a conference for journalists in 2015 and never looked back. Joshua develops news on research ranging from wearable computers for dogs to cybersecurity solutions. Tableau visualizations enhance these news stories and other data projects designed for the public. Joshua has 20 years of experience in higher education marketing and public relations.

Neil Richards

EMEA BI Lead, JLL

Neil works in the UK as EMEA BI Lead for JLL, and has been using Tableau for about 5 years. He has been a Tableau Public Ambassador since 2017, a Tableau Zen Master in 2018 and again in 2020, making him so far the first and only “boomerang” Zen Master! He is also on the board of the Data Visualisation Society and Viz for Social Good. Neil frequently blogs about data visualisation and shares his design methods, thought processes and personal dataviz projects at questionsindataviz.com.
