Talk Title: Adventures in Encoding: Using Flower Motifs in Tableau

Talk Overview: In this talk, Faith will take us behind the scenes of her 'Death from Natural Disasters' viz, exploring how she translated data into a floral motifs in Tableau. She’ll share the conceptual challenges of encoding data with organic symbols, the creative decisions that shaped the final design, and the technical process of using custom shapes and precise positioning in Tableau.

Talk Overview: How do you create an aesthetically pleasing and action-driven dashboard for a charity with no prior data experience and no existing data? Karina will share her experience collaborating with a charity to build a dashboard using mock data that balances practicality with impactful design. Attendees will gain tips in guiding inexperienced clients, learn strategy for working with mock data and leave with knowledge on how to build a gradient chord chart.
