Log in, grab a treat, and take a comfortable seat. We'll meet Soraya Campbell, map her journey into Tableau, and how she uses it to analyze data about students and their domestic and international journeys via experiential learning programs at Duke University. Tooltips in Tableau let users see more details when they hover over a mark in a view. Laura Urciuoli from MIT will take us on a road trip from the default tooltip to dynamic viz in tooltips, with a few interesting stops along the way. A lot of us start out in data visualization the same way a 5-year-old packs for a trip: stuff your favorite toys and books in a bag and you're good. Jenn Schilling from University of Arizona will help us move away from simply throwing all the charts and colors on a dashboard by sharing how Gestalt principles, pre-attentive attributes, and color theory can help us pack more impact into our visualizations. We'll close out the meeting with info about the next meeting and then open up breakout rooms to chat!Welcome and Announcements
