Meet Justin Boone, who has buzzed from student to student trainer to IT at Georgia Tech; hear the buzz about Higher Ed conferences; and learn what the buzz around pre-attentive attributes is all about, including how they can help take some of the sting out of consuming data!

Log in, grab a treat, and take a comfortable seat.
In the last decade or so, Justin has buzzed from a Masters in math to the Peer Tutoring Programs and most recently, built a hive in IT, all at GT. Find out how he uses, learns, and enables Tableau development!
With the winter freeze solidly in place, the Higher Education Tableau user looks to conferences to help, as the Waitresses say, "get this winter over with!" But there are so many conferences out there (and often, so limited a budget), that it's hard to tell what's worth trying to make the case for.
We're going to showcase a few conferences in the Higher Ed realm, some new (Research Analytics Summit), some well-established (EDUCAUSE); some regional NCAIR, some national (AIR); and of course, some Tableau (we are the Higher Ed Tableau User Group).
While our goal is to help you learn what's out there, in writing up this description, we started to realize that we may actually be creating some FOMO. For that, we apologize in advance...and speaking of advance(ment), there's also DRIVE/.
Every once in a while, we like to go back to basics. If you're a long-time HETUG attendee, you may remember back in August 2022, Jenn Schilling presented on some data viz best practices, hitting on pre-attentive attributes and how they impact how users "see" a data visualization.
A refresher never hurts, but this time around, we're going to add a twist. We'll also do a deep-dive (well, as deep as we can get in ~30 minutes; good thing Roshni talks fast) into a workbook that demos pre-attentive attributes, from the Prep Flow to build out the data to the final dashboard, learning a bit about parameter actions, custom shapes, image roles, and who knows that else along the way.
We'll close out the meeting with info about our next HETUG meeting, and then open up breakout rooms to chat! (Chat may extend past 4:30pm Eastern.)
Have a quick tip to share? A longer presentation? Want us to interview you in our Meet a Community Member segment? We want to hear from you!
Want to chat with other HETUG members? Have a Tableau question? Want a sounding board? We've got a Slack space for that.
