Speakers:

Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic : Founder & CEO of storytelling with data

Cole has always had a penchant for turning data into pictures and into stories. She is CEO of storytelling with data, the author of the best-selling books, storytelling with data: a data visualization guide for business professionals, storytelling with data: let’s practice!, and storytelling with you: plan, create, and deliver a stellar presentation. For more than a decade, Cole and her team have delivered interactive learning sessions sought after by data-minded individuals, companies, and philanthropic organizations all over the world. They also help people create graphs that make sense and weave them into compelling stories through the popular SWD community, blog, podcast, and videos.

Mike Cisneros

Mike encourages people around the world to tell their own personal, social, and cultural data-driven stories. He is an award-winning designer, author, and two-time Tableau Visionary who has spent more than 25 years working in environments ranging from entertainment to the federal government, from academic publishing to energy retailing, from internet startups to multi-billion-dollar conglomerates. He notes a common struggle: communicating simply, clearly, and intentionally. Today, Mike teaches others how to take their complicated analyses and turn them into convincing, clear visual messages so that everyone can learn how their story can best be told, heard, and understood.

Amy Esselman

Amy has made a career out of discovering and telling the stories hidden in data to enable better business decisions. Through her varied experiences in industry, education, and consulting, she has seen firsthand the real-world positive impacts of effective data communication and enjoys helping others learn how to hone their data storytelling skills. Amy has taught colleagues, clients, and university students how to improve presentations and communicate data to deliver more value. Now, she draws on her experiences and passion for teaching to help storytelling with data clients craft compelling narratives for their data visualizations.

Alex Velez

Alex has told many stories across the finance, insurance and pharmaceutical industries. She developed this skill both inside and outside of the office; and therefore, believes that everyone—regardless of their training—can benefit from effective communication. Her experience as a dance-fitness instructor and peer educator taught her the importance of crafting messages tailored for the audience. Once she began incorporating this important learning into her more technical roles—data engineering and analysis—she was surprised at the immediate positive reaction to her work. Now, she spends her time assisting others: by helping them tell THEIR data stories!

Simon Rowe

Simon cultivated his skills working with data in financial services, where his experience spans consulting with clients, creating and presenting communications, and coaching his team to bring business performance insights to life in an engaging way. Inspired following attendance at a storytelling with data workshop, Simon became actively involved in the SWD monthly challenge, Tableau community, and co-leads the Sports Viz Sunday initiative. He understands how essential it is for those communicating with data to be trusted advisors to stakeholders and leaders and helps SWD clients achieve this standing within their organizations.
