About this event

March's event will showcase presentations by David Baker and Ann Pregler, with breakfast and networking to follow.

Presentation 1: How building an R Shiny MicroSaaS might make you a better data scientist:

Building a MicroSaaS forces data scientists to think beyond analysis and requires developing skills in software engineering, writing code that can be used in production, and encourages higher level business thinking. In this talk, I’ll demonstrate how tools from the R (mostly Posit!) ecosystem– like R Shiny– can be used to develop a minimum viable product using a ticket sales analysis app. I highlight how this process not only improves technical skills, but also enables rapid development of business objectives.

Presentation 2: "Building Low Maintenance Dashboard"

Manually maintaining and updating dashboards can be a big problem: It eats up time that could be used for new work, and creates opportunities for human error to slip in. In this presentation, we'll explore some strategies for making more automatic dashboards that require less maintenance. Plus, we'll dive into the tricky trade-off between maintainability and creativity.
